Daddy is finally home for the weekend after his whirlwind travels the last two weeks. So it was time to do something special with the jmonsters, Mommy was jmonstered out flying solo for the last couple of weeks. We decided to head out to Fillmore Glen State Park to do some hiking and see if we could find a few geocaches.
We loaded up some food for snacks and lunches, jmonsters can’t go for more than an hour without eating. The GPS, camera, maps, juices, water, walkie-talkies, jackets, cache info, swag for trading, and extra batteries made Daddy wish for a pack-mule for the trip.
We were off, the bet of who would say “are we almost there yet” was lost by Smallmonster, about a block away from the house. Down the lake and we were at the park.
We started up, up, up the North Rim Trail, and then bushwhacked for a little bit until we landed on a snowmobile trail. We hiked a little bit further and started to search for our first geocache. After about a half-hour, the Smallmonster found it in an old hollowed out log. Our next geocache Pirates of the Caribbean, here is our post:

Jmonsters found it! A great hike up the Glen and our first find of the day. We took a magnifying glass and a dog sticker, and we left a race car and a key chain. TFTC!

The jmonsters geocaching at Fillmore Glen State Park
We ate some lunch by the stream and headed out for our second find. We caught back up with the North Rim Trail and headed down into the gorge. Smallmonster and Daddy got a little nervous. The trail is pretty steep and it drops off directly to the left. There were a few tears, but (Smallmonster Daddy tried to control himself while Daddy Smallmonster consoled him). At last we made it to the bottom. We had a photo-op near the falls and met up with some other hikers. We took pictures for one another, and headed back up the gorge to the South Rim Trail.
We made it about half way up when we decided to do some more bushwhacking for the second geocache, Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!. We ended up traversing some pretty treacherous hills which ended up with Daddy taking a bit of a slide tumble. Nothing bruised or broken just dirty, and one of the walkie-talkies got lost. We didn’t have any luck with this one, and some of the comments on the website lead us to believe that the muggles may have gotten this one…
I have to take pause here, because I really never thought I would say, think, or worse yet write anything that contained the word muggle. I really think this may be a new low/high in geekyness.

Jmonsters had no luck in finding this one. We rounded up all of the usual suspects with no success.

After regrouping a bit, we headed back up, up, up to the North Rim Trail. About a 1/4 mile further we headed in for our last geocache of the day, Military History. The GPS kept jumping around so we had to hunt for a while. We did finally find it, Tallmonster is taking credit for this one, but the jury is still out. He has a hard time staying focused and is always chasing off after something shiny. Daddy caught up in time to separate the jmonsters shouting match of who actual found the cache first. Daddy declared Tallmonster the finder with a wink to the Smallmonster which seemed to satisfy both parties. Here is our log:

Jmonsters found it! The GPS jumped around a bit, but there was success after about 15 minutes or so. Great hide and our second find of the day. We took a button, jet, and a car, and left a truck, mighty bean, and a stone from Colorado. Fillmore Glen is a beautiful Park and it was a perfect day for some hiking. TFTC!

We headed down the North Rim Trail to the bottom of the gorge. We took a quick walk up to the Cowsheds for some more photo-op’s by the falls. No fossils to speak of, because we obeyed the do not cross sign, much to Tallmonster’s chagrin. Back to the truck and we are heading home. Daddy really can’t remember being this sore and tired. The jmonsters showed a little sympathy and then commented on how old and fat Daddy is, there was much tickling retribution on the ride home. A great adventure till the end…

What a wonderful experience. Sorry about your fall, Daddy. Glad you lost the walkie talkie instead of the camera … the pictures are wonderful. Maybe you’ll recover your walkie talkie the next time you go geocaching there … someone might leave it for you.
